Dear Mrs. Aniston
My name is Halle Montrose and I would like to inform you about a topic that is a burning sensation in my heart. There is an issue about bottled water in our world today that is kind of scary. There are water bottled companies that are tricking people into thinking that drinking bottled water is healthier than drinking tap water when it isn't. Bottled water is basically tap water just with a fancy label on the cover.
Also if you look at the effects that these companies have had on the different countries because of bottled water and the effects of our use of bottled water. When we are finished drinking bottled water and throw them away the are "recycled" but is this really true. I do not think so because it is a fact that companies ship the empty bottles over to countries like India and the bottles end up in the peoples backyards. Do you really think that this is a product that you should be promoting after reading this.
I know that you get paid for promoting this product but please take a time to think about how many live they are affecting peoples lives and the atmosphere. It is not easy for these people to stand up for them selves because the big companies can over rule them any time of the day. The celebrity world can though. If every celebrity who promotes water stand up and says no it can make a big difference. I am not hating you for promoting bottled water because I know it is your job, but pleases think about all of its consequences.
Sincerely yours,
Halle Montrose
I did not feel right while writing this letter becaus it is her job. I cannot talk bad about her because this is how she makes her money even though she makes it in other forms of media. It is not my job to judge her and I honestly believe that she is a caring person. This is exactly how I felt. Also I think that the reason that we write to celebrities is because we think that they are very powerful and the really are. Sometimes it might make a difference and sometimes it won't. Reason being is because they get a lot of letter each day and may not be able to read all of them even though they might want to. Well this is the end of another one of my famous blogs. Untill next time remember do not judge a book by its cover.
Halle - for someone who didn't "feel right" writing a letter, you sure were passionate about your subject! While it is possible someone else has already brought these issues to Jennifer Aniston's attention, it is also possible they have not. Social media today is able to sway public opinion in a way it has never been influenced before. Places like "Change.org" give people a voice via petittion to create change. There are examples of huge organizations and businesses changing what they do because of social media. Maybe the bottled water issue is not really as burning an issue to you as you say in your letter, but maybe another issue about water would fire you up as much or even more. And if it did, what would you do to find a solution to the issue? What would you do to right a wrong? I know for me, the amount and intensity of my efforts are directly related to the importance the topic has for me. Part of what I want for all of you is to begin to view some of these issues (related to water in this unit, but more importantly, related to human rights and our obligation as Christians to DO SOMETHING about problems we see around us). as significantly important - important enough to do something about them. Is there another issue you feel more passionate about?
ReplyDeleteI guess another question se have to ask ourselves when doing something like writing a letter to a celebrity and asking them to change not only their thinking but also their actions, is "if not me, then who?" Perhaps we are just one tiny spec of humanity on this earth and not able to do much, but if I don't do something, who will?
By the way, how did you find her address? Good work!
